New Mexico homeowners have until midnight on Sept. 4 to apply for financial assistance to repair or replace failing septic systems through the New Mexico Environment Department’s Liquid Waste Disposal Assistance Fund. Join the Hermit's Peak Watershed Alliance and Quivira for a collaborative, field-based workshop on a private ranch along the Sapello River. Participants will work alongside restoration practitioners to construct low-tech, process-based erosion control structures within an ephemeral channel — drainages that flow only during rainfall or snowmelt events.

Participants will learn how restoration treatments such as log structures, one-rock dams, constructed log jams, contour felling, and upland erosion control practices help restore watershed function, improve water quality, and reduce downstream flood impacts.

The Frijoles Fire, which started by lightning on August 4, has grown to approximately 12,887 acres and is 13% contained. The fire is burning about 5 miles west of Sierra Mosca and within the Pecos Wilderness.

We will share updates and lessons learned from the Rio Chama and Santa Cruz Regional Acequia associations and focus our time on reviewing the first draft of the acequia drought resilience handbook and receiving your feedback and input!
