Get Outdoors Nevada Connecting Nevadan's to their beautiful outdoor spaces through stewardship, environmental education, and community outreach.

Join us in caring for the places we all share. 💚http://www.getoutdoorsnevada.org At Get Outdoors Nevada, we believe that access to nature transforms lives. Our mission is to inspire and connect people to Nevada’s outdoor spaces through volunteerism, education, and community partnerships. Each year, thousands of volunteers help us plant native desert gardens, restore habitats, and clean up parks and trails across Southern Nevada. We also provide outdoor education experiences for local students — nurturing curiosity, stewardship, and care for the Mojave Desert.

âť—TW: Arachnophobia âť—

Spooky, scary spiders....? We don't think so. đź•·

These eight-legged creatures get a bad rap but they come with a slew of benefits. Not only do they keep insect populations at bay (say bye bye to fleas, roaches & mosquitoes), but they also help to reduce the spread of diseases that some pests can transfer (think malaria, typhus & salmonella). You'll not only find them working hard in your garden and yard, but also inside your home where they are the most low-maintenance roommates you could ask for. So, think twice before squashing, spraying, or evicting these wonderful critters.

Bonus points: please refrain from decorating your yard with fake spiderwebs. Birds, bees, butterflies, & bats have been known to get ensnared in the material. Instead, you can make a web out of rope or LED lights and move the fake spiderwebs inside for a spooky take on indoor decorating.

As always, please use caution when around wildlife. If you suspect a spider in your home is venomous, alert a professional.

Let's go on a virtual hike together! 🌄

The Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail is located within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This is an easy, out-and-back trail that leads straight to the Hoover Dam.

Did you know? We recently received a donation to restore and beautify this trail to make it accessible for all who visit.

Have you been on this trail before? Tell us your story in the comments!

Take a look at our upcoming events! We're excited to see everyone there!

Happy World Migratory Bird Day! Whether you’re just getting into birding or you can already identify birds by their calls, we hope this post encourages you to not only get outside, but to actively protect the wonderful birds that cross our paths. Simple actions such as dimming or turning off unnecessary lights, avoiding pesticides, and picking up trash can make a world of difference to visiting birds and to those that call the Mojave home.

What’s your favorite migratory bird? Tell us in the comments below.

Make sure to follow Red Rock Audubon, Cornell Lab and American Bird Conservancy for more information on birds and for upcoming events. Happy birding! 🦉
