Early voting begins tomorrow, October 17! NSEA proudly endorses Aaron D. Ford for Governor because our students deserve a real champion for public education.

Educators know the difference between a promise and a record, and our students cannot afford four more years of Joe Lombardo. His record: a $2 increase in per-pupil funding causing deficits in nearly every district. Vetoes of school meals, class size relief, and summer school funding. Silence as the U.S. Department of Education is dismantled.

Every veto is a missed opportunity for a student. Every vacant position means more work for an already stretched educator. Every year we wait is another year our students don’t get back.

Make a plan. Vote Aaron Ford. Repost your commitment to public education and spread the word.

Here's the problem with Joe Lombardo's $2 increase in per-pupil funding. Fuel costs are impacting educators and our districts. Districts around the state will spend millions more getting our kids to school. And Lombardo's education budget, a de facto cut, leaves districts to absorb the hit.

High fuel costs are impacting the Washoe County School District. The district says by the end of this fiscal year, they are projected to spend an additional $1.5 million on diesel for its fleet of school buses. Alina Dangerfield reports.

"That $2 billion should have been the beginning of the work, not the end of it," said NSEA President Dawn Etcheverry.

NSEA has been urging Lombardo to implement recommendations from a panel of school finance experts to get Nevada's per-pupil funding up to the national average. Its ideas, including expanding the sales tax base and reforming property tax, have been largely ignored by Lombardo.

Instead, Lombardo has been looking at data centers as a possible source for additional tax revenue..

Gov. Joe Lombardo has accomplished many of his K-12 education goals during his term including increasing funding and expanding school choice. But some educators say they give his efforts an F.

NSEA took our advocacy for Nevada’s educators and students straight to Capitol Hill today!

We met staff from Nevada’s congressional delegation to advocate for stronger public education funding, restoring collective bargaining rights for DoDEA educators, protecting the E-Rate Program, expanding access to paid family and medical leave, and investing in adult education.

We also urged lawmakers to reject the Treasury Department’s proposed voucher regulations that threaten to divert resources from public education. Keep public money in public schools!

Nevadans deserve to hear the self-proclaimed "Education Governor" defend his record, including:

▶️ his $2 increase to per-pupil funding
▶️ his veto of school meals for kids
▶️ his veto of class size reduction
▶️ his unwavering support for dismantling the Department of Education.

Joe Lombardo should have to defend comments like Nevada "can no longer accept lack of funding as an excuse for chronic underperformance" when districts (not just Clark County) are cutting staff, services, and opportunities.
