NAN, house under UNLV's NICRP, supports out-of-school-time programs to provide access to safe and quality opportunities for all school-age youth throughout Nevada. The Nevada Afterschool Network provides a variety of services to out-of-school-time providers and staff, community members, parents and youth. Included in our services are professional development opportunities, workshops for families o

n accessing quality programming for their children; fun activities and web based links for children to explore a variety of topics and for help with homework. The Network is also part of a nationwide network of similar programs that promote advocacy, policy, and fund development for out-of-school time programs.

NAN enjoyed visiting the Battle Mountain After School Program in Lander County School District! 💚

During the visit, students were engaged in reading, math, and hands-on STEAM, including a fun Shaving Cream Rain Clouds experiment. It was great to see the supportive environment created by afterschool staff and learn more about the program’s strong student participation, youth mentor opportunities, and creative support for students and families in this rural community.

A big thank you to Jimi Newkirk for welcoming NAN and sharing the great work happening through Battle Mountain’s afterschool programs!

STEM for Nevada is hosting MECH Workshops! This hands-on program gives middle school students the chance to dive into real engineering—building circuits, programming microcontrollers, and solving challenges using industry tools alongside a practicing engineer.

📍 Hosted at Lied STEM Academy
📅 June 1 – July 17
👩‍🔬 Open to incoming 6th–8th grade students

Students will not only gain real-world STEM skills, but also keep their hardware kit to continue innovating long after the program ends. Plus, select participants may even get the opportunity to visit the Scorpius Linear Induction Accelerator at the NNSS 👀

NAN & NICRP are teaming up with Dartmouth University to study the effects of 3D printer emissions on air quality and health.

We are looking for OST programs in Nevada WITH ACCESS TO A 3D PRINTER who are interested in helping with this study over the next few months!

Programs selected to participate will receive a free 3D printing curriculum and safety manual and free 3D printing materials!

Participation includes the following activities:
- Visits from a Nevada Flight Crew Member and/or NAN Staff to observe and measure current 3D printing usage (minimum of 2 hours each time)
- Pilot implementation of a new 3D printing curriculum
- Completion of brief pre and post surveys by OST program staff and youth participants (no identifying information will be included in the study)
