Meet Our Executive Fellow: Aja Currey

Aja is a 2026–2027 Teach Plus New Mexico Executive Fellow, working directly with Senior Fellows and supporting projects led by the newest cohort of New Mexico Policy Fellows. She previously served as a Teach Plus New Mexico Senior Policy Fellow and National Research Fellow and is an alumna of the New Mexico Policy Fellowship. Aja is also the principal at Rio Gallinas Charter School in Las Vegas, New Mexico, where she focuses on elevating teacher leaders and building a culture of high expectations and strong connections.

Prior to becoming a school leader, Aja spent 10 years as a special education teacher. She also participated in the Teach for America (TFA) Rural School Leaders Cohort (2023–2024) and serves on the board of the Kiwanis group supporting K-Kids in her community. Aja earned BAs in early childhood multicultural education and special education from New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU), as well as a master’s in educational leadership from NMHU.

Meet Policy Fellow: Maren Woods

Maren is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus New Mexico Policy Fellow and kindergarten teacher at Rio Gallinas School for Ecology and the Arts in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She serves as instructional materials and experiences coordinator and as a member of the school leadership team. Prior to her current role, Maren spent over a decade teaching in early childhood classrooms, from infant and toddler care through elementary. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and has worked with childcare programs to increase quality ratings through the New Mexico FOCUS system. She earned a BA in early childhood multicultural education (birth through age 3) from New Mexico Highlands University.

Hello everyone!

We are so excited to start our school year next Thursday, August 6th 2026! Registration should be done BEFORE this date.

We will be having our meet-the-teacher event and and supply drop-off on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 between 2:00pm and 4:00pm to kick things off!

We can't wait to see you all!

Special Education Teacher/Coordinator:
Applicants must possess or be eligible to apply for a New Mexico K-8 or K-12 Special Education License
Salary: Appropriate level of Teacher Salary Schedule, based on experience, license level and education
Background check required

Math Lab Teacher/Interventionist:
Bachelors Degree
Experience in tutoring or teaching mathematics to elementary or secondary students
Experience in designing and engaging project based mathematics
Background check required
