Back to School Means Ride Safe! 🎒🚲

As students head back to school, we are reminding everyone to slow down, stay alert and ride responsibly when using e-bikes and e-scooters. 🚲⚠️

The city’s e-bike and e-scooter safety ordinance is designed to help protect riders, pedestrians and our community. 🛴🛡️

Remember:
• 15 mph speed limit at city-operated facilities. 🚦
• Helmets are required for minors. 🪖
• No wheelies, stunts or reckless riding. 🚫
• Bikes must have required lamps and reflectors. 💡
• Bikes must have a bell capable of being heard from at least 100 feet. 🔔
• Bikes and e-scooters are prohibited on sidewalks along Fremont Street between Main Street and 7th Street. 🚫

Whether you’re riding to school, the park or around the neighborhood, know the rules, watch your surroundings and put safety first. 👀

HEAT ADVISORY: TAKE IT SERIOUSLY ☀️

Extreme heat can become life-threatening in minutes. Stay safe by drinking water throughout the day, limiting outdoor activity, seeking shade or air conditioning and wearing lightweight clothing.
Know the warning signs 🌡️🚨

• Heat exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness or muscle cramps.
• Heat stroke: Confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures or a high body temperature. Call 911 immediately.
Protect your pets 🐾
• Provide fresh water, shade and extra cooling (pool, swamp cooler, cooling mat, etc.)
• Walk pets during the cooler morning or evening hours.
• Hot pavement burns paws—if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
• Never tether pets outside during a heat advisory.
• Never leave people or pets in parked cars.

Back-to-school week is here! 🎒🚦

The city of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety is proud to partner with the Clark County School District Police Department to promote back-to-school safety!

Parents and drivers: slow down, stay alert and pay attention—especially in school zones and when buses are loading or unloading.

At DPS, we take the safety of our students seriously. Our officers and staff work year-round to help keep parks, trails, washes surrounding our schools safe for students, families and our community.

A big thank you to the Las Vegas Raiders for hosting our back-to-school traffic safety press event! 🏈

To help keep everyone safe, law enforcement agencies throughout Clark County and its municipalities will be out in force enforcing traffic laws during the back-to-school period and beyond.

Let’s work together to make sure our students, families and staff get to school safely—not just next week, but all year long. 💙

Last night, the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety stood alongside our law enforcement partners, first responders, and community members at Police Memorial Park to honor the life and service of LVMPD Officer Austin Abdelnabi.

In moments like these, our public safety family comes together as one. We stand with Officer Abdelnabi’s family, friends, colleagues and everyone who knew and served alongside him.

It was an honor to be present and show our support as our community came together to remember a life dedicated to protecting others.

We will continue to stand with our law enforcement family and all those who serve our community.

Rest in peace, Officer Abdelnabi. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. 🕯️💙

The city of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Chief and Deputy Chief were honored to attend the first inspection for Southern Nevada Desert Regional Police Academy Class 2026-02, where they welcomed the newest members of our family.

This academy class reflects the strength of our community, bringing together individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives—all united by a commitment to serve.

Please join us in congratulating our 17 Corrections Officer recruits and 6 Deputy City Marshal recruits as they begin their journey into an incredibly rewarding profession.

The Department of Public Safety was excited to participate in Joy Prom this weekend at M Resort Spa Casino!

Joy Prom is a special event that provides adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience a memorable prom night filled with music, dancing, friendship and fun in an inclusive, welcoming environment.

It was an honor to celebrate alongside so many incredible members of our community and help create an evening full of smiles and lasting memories. Thank you to everyone who made this amazing event possible!
