Stronger Together would like to wish our newly elected officers success as they begin to lead our members through their next term. We hope they will continue to fight for the issues impacting ALL districts across the state. As members of the Stronger Together Team we will continue to be actively engaged in every aspect of our union working with our offices to create a union we can all be proud of.

In his last moments of presidency Richard Iannuzzi stated, "regardless of the outcome or our differences... we must remain united for the benefit of our union and movement." As we move forward let us continue to keep our minds focused on holding people accountable and listening to the needs of our union brothers and sisters throughout the state.

Commissioner Elia sent a misleading letter on grades 3-8 testing that requires a closer look. Read and share our fact checks - and know your rights about opting your children out of state tests:

See original post.

New York State's learning standards expect students to be able to verify the accuracy of factual statements — yet the commissioner this week sent a highly questionable letter on grade 3-8 testing that requires a closer look. Here’s NYSUT’s take.

NYSUT Executive Vice President Jolene DiBrango said, “The State Education Department still doesn’t have it right. These standardized tests continue to mislabel and harm students and their local schools. In many instances, they are still not developmentally appropriate. They frustrate students and their teachers. The system must change. Students and teachers deserve better than this.”

Student test scores released today are based on badly flawed standardized tests that are tied to invalid and inaccurate “proficiency” benchmarks — and were provided to teachers and schools too late to be helpful.
