This week, the lights at the Lloydsville Volunteer Fire Department have been turned red in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Across the country, fire departments illuminate their stations in red as a sign of remembrance and respect for the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This year marks the 26th consecutive year that Lloydsville has participated in National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Weekend, a tradition that began following the passing of our own Firefighter Nathan Pescatore in 2000. Since then, this weekend has remained deeply personal to our department and serves as a reminder that we must never forget those who gave everything for their communities.

We are especially proud to have members representing Lloydsville during this year’s memorial events. Assistant Fire Chief Mitch Samick is serving as the Honor Guard / Pipes & Drums Deputy Branch Director, helping lead and coordinate the ceremonial honors given to our fallen firefighters throughout the weekend. Firefighter Tyler Himler is serving as a Family Es**rt, an important role in which firefighters are paired with surviving family members to guide, support, and stand beside them during the memorial events and ceremonies.

As our station glows red this week, we ask our community to join us in remembering all fallen firefighters and keeping their families, friends, and departments in your thoughts. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, Lloydsville Volunteer Fire Department Lieutenant David Vogle traveled to San Antonio, Texas to Fort Sam Houston to attend the Class of 2026 68W Combat Medic graduation.

We would like to congratulate Firefighter/EMT Alex Plummer on his successful graduation and completion of this major accomplishment. Alex will be serving our country with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, and we could not be more proud of his dedication, hard work, and commitment to service.

Thanks to your support, we proudly sold 5,397 fish sandwiches this season! We truly couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.
