Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

*Residential Fire & MVA*

This evening members from Number 7 Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a mobile home fire. Members arrived on scene and found a mobile home with heavy fire showing from the front and a power line in the front yard. Units on scene worked to extinguish the fire. Duke Energy was called to disconnect and remove the power line. We would like to thank Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue, Shanghai Volunteer Fire Department and Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department for assisting.

Once the fire was brought under control all Number 7 units returned to the firehouse to get equipment cleaned and placed back on the apparatus. While members were cleaning equipment Number 7 was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident. Members arrived on scene and found a single vehicle accident with heavy damage. All passengers were uninjured but were assessed by Cleveland County EMS as a precaution.

Road conditions within our district. I promise there are roads in these photos.

We know you're going to get out and play so we just ask that you do it safely.

If you must drive on the roads use extreme caution. We are encouraging everyone to stay home.

Drive slow and give yourself extra time to get where you need to go. Even with other cars having their headlights on they are hard to see.

Turn on your headlights and 4 ways for better visibility to other vehicles traveling

Stay safe and stay warm.
