Welcome to Cohort 13 of Lauderhill Shines!

We’re excited to welcome 19 dedicated participants who are embarking on a 14-week journey to grow or start their businesses in Lauderhill. This cohort includes individuals from various industries, including retail, healthcare, arts and entertainment, food service, and event planning.

Key Insights:
✨️Lauderhill Residents: About 68% of our cohort members are proud residents of Lauderhill, demonstrating a strong commitment to our local community.

✨️Business Registration:
- 79% have registered their businesses on Sunbiz.
- However, only 26% % reported having their businesses registered with Broward County, and even fewer, 16%, have obtained a business license from the City of Lauderhill.

This indicates that while many participants are eager to establish their businesses, a significant number are still in the early stages of navigating local regulations.

As they move forward, this program will provide the necessary guidance to ensure compliance at all levels while building their capacity and fostering a supportive environment for success.

Special thanks to Lauderhill Shines Alumni for hosting us.🌱✨

If someone calls saying they're from your bank's fraud department, hang up and call the number on the back of your card.

Our detectives are seeing a scheme that works like this: a caller poses as a representative from a real, well-known bank. They tell the victim their account has been compromised. They sound calm, professional, and urgent all at once. Then they instruct the victim to withdraw cash, or to hand over a debit card, so the "compromised" funds can be secured.

A courier — sometimes a rideshare driver who has no idea what they're carrying — shows up at the door to collect it.
These schemes target older adults specifically, and they cross state lines.

Lauderhill detectives have worked cases connected to victims hundreds of miles from here.

Here is what banks do not do:
❌ They do not send anyone to your home to collect cash or cards
❌ They do not ask you to withdraw money to "protect" it
❌ They do not ask for your PIN, your full account number, or a code texted to your phone
❌ They do not tell you to keep the call secret from your family

If you get a call like this: HANG UP. Don't press a number, don't stay on the line to argue. Call your bank directly using the number printed on your card or statement — not a number the caller gives you.
Then call us at 954-764-4357. Even if you didn't lose money, the report helps.

And if you have a parent or grandparent in Lauderhill — send them this. That conversation before the call comes is worth more than anything we can do afterward.
