I'm proactively declaring a state of emergency in Ohio due to the damaging and dangerous conditions Winter Storm Fern is expected to bring to our state this weekend. I continue to encourage everyone to stay home unless it's absolutely necessary to be out.

As we prepare for the upcoming winter storm we want to send out some reminder safety tips and ask for your help. ❄️🚨

• If you live close to a fire hydrant please clear a 3 foot area around the hydrant so that they are easily seen and can be utilized if needed.

• If you notice that snow is covering the address numbers for your house please keep them clear. If we can't see the numbers it slows us down when we are trying to find you.

• Please keep your gas meter uncovered. In the event it would need to be shut off it makes it easier to locate. Also if those that vents are close to the ground level to make sure they are kept clear of snow cover. This includes your furnace as well as your water heater if it is a gas appliance. These vents being blocked by snow or ice can allow CO to build up in your house.

• Regular Checks: During snowy conditions, routinely check and clear any snow buildup around your furnace vent. How to Clear: Use a shovel or broom to safely remove snow from the vent.

• Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Ensure your detectors are working and installed in key areas of your home.

We hope everyone says safe, drives careful, and avoids being out if they do not need to be.
