This week is National Volunteer Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the incredible men and women who serve our community as volunteer firefighters and emergency medical responders.

Across our county, nearly 330 volunteers serve within 19 volunteer fire departments, covering over 700 square miles and protecting a population of more than 67,000 residents. These individuals respond to fires, vehicle accidents, natural disasters, search and rescue missions, and so much more whenever the call comes in.

What makes their service even more remarkable is that give or take, 80% of these volunteers balance full-time, day-to-day jobs. After long hours at work, they still answer the call, leaving behind their families, their dinners, and their downtime to show up for others in moments of need.

That kind of commitment speaks volumes.

Your time. Your sacrifice. Your courage. It does not go unnoticed.

From all of us, thank you for everything you do to keep our community safe.

The members of the M&M Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to the O’Neal family during this incredibly difficult time.

We are especially lifting up Mr. Richard O’Neal, who recently retired after 37 years of dedicated service to our department, as he mourns the loss of his beloved wife. Her passing is felt not only by their family, but by all of us who consider Richard part of our fire family.

Once family, always family.

We stand with you, Richard, and pray for peace, comfort, and strength in the days ahead. Please know you are not alone.

HEADS UP: The Jones County Emergency Operations Center announced that Norton Road will be closed to through traffic, starting Monday, July 14.

The bridge will close at 6:00 a.m. and remain closed for approximately 100 working days, depending on weather conditions.

Keep note that some of these roads you may take for a detour are very curvy. Slow down!!!

Our department has considered alternate routes for the time frame of the closure and remains prepared when you need us most. 🚒
