Did you know…

Laurel Emergency Medical Services coverage area is 205 square miles!

On staff we have 6 full time positions. 1 Director that is a paramedic, 3 paramedics, 1 AEMT and 1 Endorsed EMT. Our full time crews work 2 24 hour shifts a week. This gives our service area good coverage, but we don’t always have a crew in the station, and we rely on our 17 volunteers to cover. We are staffed with two crew members 3 days a week and the other 4 days we only have one crew member on shift. We have the most amazing volunteer staff and we couldn’t do it without them, but unfortunately those volunteers work other full time jobs and aren’t always available to fill the holes.

In 2022 we had 1238 requests for service. 177 times, or 14% of the time, we were not available due to not having a crew or our crew was already on a call.
We average 3 calls a day and each call takes a minimum of 1 hour and most likely 2 hours to complete each call. We seem to just keep getting busier and busier.

We want to be transparent and keep you informed about the staffing needs of LEMS and what we are doing to make sure when you call 911 for an ambulance you get one. Stay tuned in the coming weeks, to this page, to meet our crew and learn some facts about LEMS.
