After years of faithful service to the Laurel Police Department and our community, K-9 Kastor has officially retired.

Alongside his handler, Lt. Blancett, Kastor served with loyalty and courage, helping keep Laurel safe. We are grateful for his years of service and thankful that he will spend his well-earned retirement at home with the partner who has been by his side every step of the way.

We wish K-9 Kastor a long, happy retirement filled with plenty of rest, treats, and time with Lt. Blancett!

Several cases were resolved in Jones County Circuit Court, including a 19-year-old defendant receiving a decade in prison for his role in a 2024 robbery.

Yesterday, staff from the Jones County District Attorney’s Office were able to witness Brandon Brooks’s sentencing in Forrest County. Former attorney Brooks was previously found guilty of Sexual Battery in Jones County and sentenced to 28 years to serve day-for-day in prison. Yesterday, Brooks was sentenced to life in prison to run consecutively to the previous sentence of 28 years for being found guilty of Sexual Battery in Forrest County.

While no verdict can undo the harm that was done, we pray this outcome brings some measure of peace and closure. We are proud of our teams in both districts and thankful for everyone who worked tirelessly to see this case through.
