Tall Pines Discovery Trail

Tall Pines Discovery Trail The interpretive trail creates an opportunity to bring the public into the forest. John F. H. Claiborne, describing the piney woods of Mississippi, 1840

The Laurel Garden Club and the USDA Forest Service, Chickasawhay District have partnered to create The Tall Pines Discovery Trail in the DeSoto National Forest. The growth of giant pines is unbroken from a hundred miles or so, save where river or large water courses intervene. Much of it is covered exclusively with the longleaf pine, not broken, but rolling like the waves in the middle of the grea

t ocean. The grass grows three feet high and hill and valley are studded all over with flower of every hue. The flora of this section of the state and thence down to the sea border is rich beyond description.
