**Severe Weather Alert**

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for the City of Laurel from 6:42 PM to 7:30 PM this evening.

A severe thunderstorm was located over Ellicott City and is moving east at 45 MPH. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 MPH. Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

The Department of Emergency Management is continuing to monitor the weather and will provide updates, as necessary.

**DROUGHT WATCH**

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments has issued a regional Drought Watch. “Our region hasn’t seen extremely dry conditions like this in about two decades when local leaders and COG first established a drought response plan to support coordination and communication regionwide,” said Clark Mercer, COG Executive Director.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to practice wise water use by taking simple, voluntary steps to reduce water use and help protect the region’s water resources if dry conditions persist. Today, the City's Department of Emergency Management participated in the Maryland Department of Emergency Management- MDEM's State-Led Disaster Forum, "Partnering for the New Normal." The event brought together emergency management officials, volunteer organizations, and businesses from across the State of Maryland and region to discuss collaborative disaster response and recovery. It was a wonderful opportunity to network, build partnerships, and enhance our community resilience. Thank you to MDEM's Whole Community Integration team for hosting this event!
