IMPORTANT NOTICE – WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT
June 22, 2026
Current Resident
Reading, PA 19605
RE: Laureldale Water Main Replacement Project
Dear Resident,
This letter is to inform you that the Muhlenberg Township Authority is in the process of conducting a water main replacement project that includes upsizing existing water mains along portions of the following streets:
Elizabeth Avenue, Raymond Street, Earl Street, Gray Street, County Street, and King Street
Construction activities associated with this project are anticipated to take place primarily between July 2026 and December 2026. This work will be scheduled to minimize disruption as much as possible; however, temporary impacts such as noise, water shutoffs, or limited access may occur during construction.
As part of this project, new water service laterals are being installed from the main water line to individual curb stops within the project area; this includes your residence. Please be advised that the installation of larger-diameter water mains may result in higher water pressure than what you are currently accustomed to in your home. Increased water pressure can potentially cause issues with internal plumbing systems, appliances, or water fixtures. To help prevent possible damage to your piping or fixtures, we strongly recommend that a licensed plumber evaluate your system and install a pressure-reducing valve (PRV) if one is necessary and not already in place.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to improve the reliability and capacity of the water distribution system in your area. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact the appropriate utility or municipal office for additional information.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 610-929-4709. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Tim Feltenberger
Operations Manager, Muhlenberg Township Authority

Muhlenberg Township Authority will be conducting routine fire hydrant flushing as part of our annual maintenance program. Flushing will begin on Monday, May 4, 2026, and continue through June in Muhlenberg Township and Laureldale Boro. What to Expect: You may experience temporary water discoloration or reduced water pressure during flushing activities. Flushing will take place between 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day. If discoloration occurs, please run your cold water tap until it runs clear before use. Avoid doing laundry during flushing hours to prevent staining. Why Do We Flush: Remove Sediment and Deposits: Over time, naturally occurring minerals, rust, and sediment accumulate in water pipes. Flushing removes these materials that settle at the bottom of the pipes, preventing buildup that could affect water quality. Maintain Water Quality: Flushing helps ensure fresh water circulates throughout the entire distribution system. Test System Performance: The process allows MTA to verify that hydrants are functioning properly, check water pressure levels, and identify any issues with valves or the distribution system. Ensure Fire Protection: Flushing confirms that hydrants are operational and can deliver adequate water flow and pressure needed for firefighting purposes in emergencies. Regular hydrant flushing is a proactive maintenance practice that protects public health and ensures the water distribution system operates efficiently and reliably. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to maintain the quality and reliability of your water service. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service team at 610-929-4709.
