🎉 Happy 40th Birthday, Ashley Rushton! 🎉
Today we’re celebrating the one and only Ashley! Ashley started with the Coroner’s Office about six years ago as a Deputy Coroner and worked her way up to Chief Deputy in 2025. She plays such an important role in our office, from helping with QA to making sure training gets completed—and most recently, she conquered her ABMDI certification! 🙌 That alone was quite the challenge… just ask her! 😂

If you know Ashley, you know she bounces around the office like Tigger 🐯 at about 90 miles an hour… until lunchtime hits. Then suddenly it’s 10 miles an hour because she’s ready to eat! 😂

And of course, we can’t forget some of Ashley’s favorite sayings:
“What’s for lunch?” 🍕
“I didn’t do it!”
“It’s not mine!”
…and the classic “That’s crazyyyy!” 😂

When she’s not working (which is about 50% of the time, lol 😉), Ashley loves spending time camping and enjoying time with her family. And then there’s her little Chihuahua, affectionately known as the “rat dog.” 🐶😂

Ashley, we hope you have an amazing 40th birthday and enjoy your well-deserved day off! 🎂🥳 You work hard, keep us laughing, and definitely keep the Coroner’s Office moving at 90 miles an hour!

Happy 40th Birthday, Ashley! We hope your day is filled with family, fun, good food, and absolutely NO work! ❤️🎉 I don’t think it’s 40th but it’s close enough.

Happy 70th Birthday to our Senior Deputy Coroner, Bill—better known to me as Mr. Jingles on the Green Mile! 🎉🎂
Bill joined the Coroner's Office in 2019, and he's truly been a blessing ever since. Now, he may try to order everything on Amazon for the office (a little too much sometimes! 😂), but he shows up every day, works hard, and helps keep all of us in line.

We don't always agree, but we always work it out. Bill's favorite things to do around the office are checking his phone, listening to piano music, and—after all these years—still trying to figure out how to do a death certificate. I guess that just makes him special too! 😆

Bill and I worked together in EMS before he followed me over to the Coroner's Office—bless his heart! He has a kind soul, is incredibly smart... most of the time. 😂 He's devoted to his family, has a shop that's packed enough to qualify as a hoarder's paradise, loves his Mr. Potato Head collection and his Aunt Jemima syrup, and for some reason, he still doesn't like the skulls we have around the office. He talks about them all the time!

We all love Mr. Bill and appreciate everything he does. I hope your 70th birthday is filled with laughter, love, and all the things that make you smile.

Happy Birthday, Bill! We hope you have a wonderful and very special day! 🎈🎉

Happy Birthday to my favorite problem child, Brandon Cromer! 🎉😂

Where do I even start? He can't get right... the list goes on and on... but somehow we keep him around! 🤦‍♀️🤣

All jokes aside, Brandon is one of the most dedicated deputy coroners I know. He's always willing to help, steps up whenever I need him, and truly has a heart for the families he serves. That kind of dedication doesn't go unnoticed.

Oh, and don't let him fool you... he acts like he's turning 50 today! 😂 He also has his "15 kids" (or at least it feels like it! 🤣), an amazing wife, proudly served our country as a veteran, and somehow gets to work for the best boss around... me! 😎

Brandon, thank you for everything you do. We give you a hard time because you're family. I hope you have an awesome birthday and a great weekend. You deserve it! 🎂🎉🇺🇸

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office is proud to announce that Chief Deputy Coroner Ashley Rushton has been recognized by the Laurens County Prevention Coalition with the Collaborative Spirit Award.

This award honors Ashley’s dedication to collaborating with community partners to increase awareness of the risks of underage alcohol use among the youth, parents, families, and residents of Laurens County.

Ashley played a key role in the planning and ex*****on of the Prom Promise event held at Laurens District High School, an impactful program designed to educate students about the potentially devastating consequences of impaired and distracted driving. Through the combined efforts of local agencies, schools, first responders, and community organizations, the event delivered an important message about making safe and responsible choices.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office extends its appreciation to the Laurens County Prevention Coalition and all community partners who continue to work together to promote the safety and well-being of our youth.

We are entrusted with speaking for those who no longer have a voice. That responsibility demands professionalism, respect, and compassion at all times. This type of behavior is disrespectful to the deceased, their families, and it will not be tolerated.

⚠️⚠️

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office is advising residents of ongoing and potential flooding concerns due to recent and continuing heavy rainfall across the county.

Several areas are experiencing rising water levels, and conditions may change rapidly. Roads may become impassable with little warning, particularly in low-lying areas, near creeks, and locations with poor drainage.

Residents are strongly urged to take the following precautions:

* Do not drive through flooded roadways—turn around, don’t risk it
* Avoid walking or playing in floodwaters
* Keep children away from ditches, streams, and standing water
* Use extra caution during nighttime travel when hazards are harder to see
* Check on vulnerable neighbors if it is safe to do so
* Follow local weather updates and Laurens County Emergency Management for the latest flood alerts and safety information

Floodwater can be deeper and more dangerous than it appears. Even shallow moving water can cause loss of control of a vehicle.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office reminds the public that no destination is worth risking a life. Stay alert, stay weather-aware, and prioritize safety.

Today, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. On this Memorial Day, the United States Armed Forces are remembered with gratitude, respect, and reflection.

As families gather and flags fly, we ask our community to take a moment to remember the fallen heroes whose courage secured the freedoms we enjoy every day.

From all of us at the Coroner’s Office, we extend our deepest appreciation to those who served and to the families who carry their memory forward.

🇺🇸 “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” 🇺🇸
