PROCLAMATION
Recognizing May as Mental Health Month in the City of Laurens
WHEREAS, mental health is essential to the overall well-being, strength, and quality of life of every person, family, workplace, school, neighborhood, and community; and
WHEREAS, mental health conditions affect people of every age, background, and walk of life, and many individuals and families in our community experience challenges related to stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, grief, isolation, and other mental health concerns; and
WHEREAS, seeking help for mental health concerns is a sign of strength, and early support, treatment, compassion, and community understanding can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who are struggling; and
WHEREAS, stigma, silence, and misunderstanding too often prevent people from receiving the care, support, and encouragement they need, and it is important for our community to speak openly and respectfully about mental health; and
WHEREAS, the City of Laurens recognizes the vital work of mental health professionals, counselors, social workers, first responders, educators, healthcare providers, faith leaders, nonprofit organizations, families, friends, and community partners who provide support, care, and hope to those facing mental health challenges; and
WHEREAS, the well-being of our citizens includes not only physical safety and economic opportunity, but also emotional health, resilience, dignity, connection, and access to appropriate care; and
WHEREAS, the City of Laurens encourages all citizens and residents to learn more about mental health, support those who may be struggling, promote kindness and understanding, and help build a community where no one feels alone in seeking help;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nathan Senn, Mayor of the City of Laurens, South Carolina, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2026 as
MENTAL HEALTH MONTH
in the City of Laurens, and call upon all citizens and residents to support mental health awareness, encourage compassion and understanding, reduce stigma, and promote the well-being of all people in our community.
