At last night’s Board of Education meeting, we proudly recognized several outstanding achievements across our district:

🏆 CTE Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Scotland High School CTE teacher, Heather Graves, who was honored as our CTE Teacher of the Year for the Sandhills Region and making her a finalist for the state award. The award presented by representatives from NCCAT.

🎶 Band Program of Distinction
Congratulations to Scotland High Band Director Mr. Jamie Bream and his talented students for earning the prestigious Program of Distinction designation for the 2025–2026 school year! This honor reflects their musical excellence, artistry, discipline and community leadership. Mr. Bream’s tireless commitment—often extending far beyond the regular school day—has helped create a program in which teamwork, creativity and excellence thrive.

⭐ National Beta Educator of Excellence
We also celebrated Mr. Andy Sutherland, who was named a National Beta Educator of Excellence for 2025–2026. Of more than 20,000 National Beta sponsors and teachers nationwide, only 170 received this recognition! Mr. Sutherland is quick to share this honor with the incredible students of the SEarCH National Beta Club, whose dedication, service and leadership make this achievement especially meaningful.

🌲 Order of the Long Leaf Pine
Board Vice Chair Dr. Carolyn Banks was also recognized for receiving the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina’s highest honors. The award recognizes her 33 years of outstanding service to our state and its children.

Congratulations to all of our honorees! Your leadership, dedication and commitment to excellence make Scotland County Schools proud!

Today, Scotland County Schools joins our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honoring the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday heroes who answered the call.

We will never forget the lives, sacrifices, and unity that forever shaped our nation. 🇺🇸

Scotland County Schools invites all parents, families, and community members to join us for an informative Town Hall Meeting at Scotland High School.

This is a great opportunity to hear direct updates from key district departments, learn how upcoming initiatives impact our students and stakeholders, and find out how you can get more involved in our schools. We’ll also host an open Q&A session to address your questions!

Students in Mrs. Gyvian Smith’s CTE Robotics class at Spring Hill Middle School transformed everyday recyclables into non-motorized machines. Through research, teamwork, and hands-on learning, students applied engineering principles to create solutions to real-world problems.

Congratulations to Dr. Carolyn Banks, Vice Chair of our Board of Education, on receiving the Order of the Long Leaf Pine this past Friday evening.

Presented by North Carolina Representative Garland Pierce, this distinguished award recognizes Dr. Banks’ 33 years of dedicated service to our state and to the children of North Carolina.

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is one of North Carolina’s highest civilian honors. Dr. Banks’ lifelong commitment to education and service has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students, families, and communities.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Banks on this extraordinary and well-deserved recognition!

A huge shout-out to three of our talented art teachers—Mr. Ray from Carver Middle School, Mr. Colon from Sycamore Lane Primary/Elementary School, and Mrs. Robinson from Laurel Hill Elementary School!

Together, they transformed the rock at Carver Middle School for the Carolina Panthers Spirit Rocks! Art Contest. The contest invited schools to showcase their Panthers pride, with the top designs earning grant funding to support school art programs.

Although our rock wasn’t selected as a finalist, we think their creativity, teamwork, and attention to detail deserve plenty of recognition! They did an amazing job bringing Panthers spirit to life, and we are incredibly proud of the talent within our Scotland County Schools family!

Help us give these talented teachers a big round of applause! 💙🖤🐾
