Within the High School Democrats of America, all the decisions are made by the staff and the Executive Board and so many people feel as if they don't have a role. When you give everyone the chance to play a vital and voicing role in the decision making you not only increase morale and productivity, but you also give everyone in the group power to voice their opinion. People strive to rise up the
ladder in this organization and become leaders. The current Executive Committee is creating committees such as the Rules Committee and the Credentials Committee, and Awards those positions to only a select amount of people. This takes some of the power away from many in the organization and gives the select few a large advantage. I feel that we have not yet built and established an effective base for this organization to run on and to grow through. There is no consistency, and it seems as if every month something is changing. I admire the work ethic and enthusiasm of the current board, but through all that work we have not yet built up HSDA to be an effective organization. I believe that there has been way too much controversy and domestic arguing within this current Executive Committee. If we could focus all of that energy that we use in debating one another 24/7, and use it in our local and state campaigns we can become victorious across the board. There are so many problems we face mostly because every year we will have to see and work with new faces and sadly sometimes start over. I am a southern Democrat who believes that if a strong foundation of success is established and built properly there can not and will not be any winds or changes that can break it. So it is our time as High School Democrats to form a Comprehensive Plan on how to make HSDA withstand the test of time years to come. My plan is to first establish a name for HSDA across all states, and to tell them we are a political organization with STRONG High School Democrats who are ready to work. We need to get the stereotype of High School students not being involved out the door. We play a very important role in the party and campaigns at all levels. Together we need to demonstrate to others our ability to move forward and with High School Democrats across the country involved, we can change the course of an election in a Progressive way. Sincerely,
John Easterling
