A drop in Birthday Reception was held today at First Baptist Church to honor Lavaca's oldest living resident, Ms. Hattie Smithson-Stem. Hattie was born in the Bloomer Community on June 9, 1920. Her family says she is always happy and in a good mood! She loves to whistle, mostly gospel songs. Happiest of Birthdays, Hattie!

The Lavaca Volunteer Fire Department hosted an extrication class today. Personnel from Lavaca, Big Creek, Greenwood Rural, and Ione Fire Departments as well as Sebastian County EMS participated in the training. Hunter Kaelin was the official instructor. We are thankful for all the men and women who volunteer their time not only to train for emergencies we all hope will never happen but to show up when they inevitably do. We salute everyone who serves their community and country in whatever capacity!

Lavaca Volunteer Firemen participated in a hose training exercise at the meeting last night. These men and women volunteer their time to not only learn the necessary skills to fight fires and respond to all types of emergencies but to also actually put those skills to use to protect and serve their community. The City of Lavaca believes that a good fire department benefits everyone in the city as well as the surrounding area. We have added two part-time positions over the last year and acquired new equipment to make the job easier for our personnel. These part time positions are funded through the General Fund.
