Thanks to retired LPD Captain and current City of Lavonia Councilman Michael Schulman for taking the time to speak with the Lavonia Citizens’ Police Academy and share his story and experience with our class.

It’s hard to believe it has been nearly 10 years since the incident where we almost lost two officers in the line of duty. Hearing firsthand accounts from those who lived through moments like that serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices and risks law enforcement officers face each day while serving their communities.

We are incredibly thankful both officers are still here with us today and continue to be part of this community. Their story is one of courage, resilience, and survival, and we appreciate Captain Schulman sharing those memories and experiences with our Citizens’ Police Academy class.

Thank you again for your continued service to the City of Lavonia and for investing your time into our program and community.

We enjoyed the last several weeks with this group as they got a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement in their community. From practical exercises to classroom instruction, these graduates experienced many simulated real-world situations our officers face every day.

Throughout the academy, participants learned about traffic stops, criminal investigations, use of force, de-escalation, fi****ms safety, patrol operations, and much more. Most importantly, they built relationships with the officers who proudly serve the City of Lavonia each day.

Thank you to each participant for investing your time, asking questions, and supporting your local police department. We hope this experience gave you a greater understanding of modern policing and the dedication it takes to serve our community.
