Environmental Charter Schools (ECS) is a network of free public schools in underserved communities of South Los Angeles. The mission of ECS is to reimagine public education in low-income communities of color to prepare conscious, critical thinkers who are equipped to graduate from college and create a more equitable and sustainable world. ECS prepares students for four-year colleges through a uniq

ue program that focuses on experiential learning and uses the environment as a way to both engage students and prepare them to become leaders in their communities. The neighborhoods served by ECS have crime rates that are twice that of the national average, low levels of educational attainment, and high levels of poverty. Even so, 98% of ECS High School graduates complete the coursework necessary for admission to a four-year college or university compared to about 35 percent statewide. In addition, ECS has two middle school campuses – ECMS-Gardena and ECMS-Inglewood.

Registration is officially for our FREE 4-week camp that is designed to boost your middle schooler’s confidence, build friendships, and keep their academic skills sharp.

At Environmental Charter Schools, culture is lived, celebrated, and taught every day.

Malcolm Isiah, a U.S. History Teacher at ECHS-G, shares that Black culture is deeply present across our school community from students, families and leadership. He feels this is reflected in our curriculum that honors stories locally and nationwide.

For him, Black history is a three-tiered story: his family, our country, and his community.
