The interview committee has selected Jeremiah Jones to fill the vacancy on the Oolitic Town Council.

We thank everyone who stepped forward and expressed interest in serving the citizens of Oolitic. Your willingness to get involved is greatly appreciated.

A huge thank-you to Tevin Norman and Tex-a-Con Cut Stone for generously allowing us to use their Oolitic office and conference room to conduct the interviews.

To ensure a transparent and fair process, Chairman Cummings formed an interview committee rather than simply making the appointment himself. The committee reviewed applications, conducted interviews, and submitted its recommendation. The Chairman has accepted that recommendation and will make the official appointment.

We look forward to Jeremiah Jones providing responsible leadership for the people of Oolitic!

Interested in Serving Oolitic? Here's How to Apply.

With the resignation of Johnny Bob Dillon, a vacancy now exists on the Oolitic Town Council.

Because Johnny was elected as a Republican, Indiana law provides that the Republican Party is responsible for selecting someone to serve the remainder of his term, which expires on December 31, 2027.

In most circumstances, vacancies in partisan elected offices are filled through a caucus of the precinct committeemen representing the area from which the officeholder was elected. However, because the Town of Oolitic lies entirely within a single voting precinct, Indiana law requires the vacancy to be filled by appointment of the Lawrence County Republican Party Chairman rather than by caucus.

To ensure a transparent and representative selection process, Lawrence County Republican Party Chairman Chase Cummings has established an interview committee to assist with the selection.

Individuals interested in filling the vacancy should email [email protected] no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31. Applicants will receive a brief questionnaire and be scheduled for an interview with the committee.

Interviews will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 3. After the interviews are completed, the committee will submit its recommendation to Chairman Chase Cummings, who will make the official appointment. This timeline will allow the vacancy to be filled within the 30-day period required by Indiana law.

Johnny Bob Dillon served the people of Oolitic for six and a half years as a member of the Town Council, and we thank him for his dedicated public service.

We look forward to selecting a qualified individual who will provide responsible and effective leadership for the citizens of Oolitic.
