A team of officers, with K9 Shadow in the lead position, arrested a man who was holed up in a second story apartment refusing to come out.

He’d been accused of attempting to stab another man.

It all started at an apartment on 26th Street just west of Iowa about 9:30 Wednesday night.
A man called for help after another man hit him and grabbed a knife. The victim says the man, who he knew, attempted to stab him but he was able to ward off the attack and run out with just a cut to his finger.

Officers spent about 30 minutes trying to convince the man to come out but he refused. K9 Shadow was eventually sent in on a long leash to gain compliance — seconds ahead of his handler and other officers.

The man continued to struggle with officers but was quickly taken into custody, then to the hospital for minor injuries and to the Douglas County Correctional Facility to be booked in.

A good question from the woman who chased down a man she caught stealing items from her car. (We've distorted her voice a bit to help hide her identity.)
ORIGINAL POST:
A woman who saw a man stealing things from her car took matters into her own hands, chased him down, tackled him and got her stuff back.
Although it’s not something we recommended, it worked.
The woman was still awake about 2:30 Sunday morning and saw the dome light on in her car, then noticed a man rummaging through the console.
When the woman ran out to confront him, the man ran. She chased him, tackled him down, and placed him in a leg lock until he surrendered and helped her locate her scattered items.
She says she then told the man to “get the —- out of here” and he ran off.
Officers searched the area and found him nearby in another apartment complex south of Clinton Parkway and Crossgate Drive.
He had additional property on him at the time that did not belong to the woman and officers placed it into evidence in case another victim reports it missing.
Officers then took him to the Douglas County Correctional facility for booking.

Kansas Highway 10 Injury Crash Update

Three people were hospitalized, including two children who remain in critical condition, after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday night on Kansas Highway 10 near the U.S. Highway 59/Iowa Street interchange.

Deputies determined a 36-year-old Edwardsville woman driving a white Kia Optima was westbound on K-10 and entered the eastbound lane just west of the exit for U.S. 59/Iowa Street. A 22-year-old Olathe man, the driver of an eastbound white Ford F-150, attempted to avoid a collision and steered into westbound lane.

However, as the Kia driver also corrected into the westbound lane, the vehicles collided head on. A black Toyota Camry, driven by a 19-year-old Overland Park woman, also struck the passenger side of the F-150 as it came to rest.

Dispatchers were notified of the crash at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, and multiple agencies responded. The response and investigation closed the highway for several hours into early Thursday morning.

The drivers of the F-150 and Camry were not transported from the scene. Medics transported the Kia driver and two children in the vehicle, ages 2 and 1, to Kansas City-area hospitals.

Deputies continue to investigate the cause and contributing factors and will complete a full crash report in coming days.
