This week we had a terrific presentation from our very own Kristy Miller about her role as Development Director with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Douglas County! BBBS helps many families each year by providing a ‘Big’ to children in need within our community. Members who might be interest in becoming a Big can learn more on their website (https://www.kansasbigs.org/northeast-lawrence).

Felice Lavergne, Director of Lawrence Transit for the City of Lawrence, Kansas - Municipal Government, presented to us today about all of the great ways public transit supports our community.

Ending an excellent presentation was the screening of The Name for Blue, a recently released short-film about Lawrence Transit and driver Eddy Martinez!

Convinced that a name is what makes a stranger visible, Eddy Martin...

Major Karen Holness and Emma Perez with Salvation Army of Kansas covered the services they provide to members in need within our community. Salvation Army is currently based at 1202 E 23rd Street and is hoping to expand their offerings to include a selectable food pantry (similar to Just Food and others) vs. community members simply receiving a box of items each time they stop in.

Lawrence Central Rotary is proud to be a sponsor of the 2026 Lawrence Vs Breast Cancer 5k walk/run, a benefit for breast cancer patients and the LMH Cancer Center.

This year's event falls on Halloween, a perfect excuse to add a little costume bling to your race apparel.

Hope you'll attend! If you do, be sure to stop by our table and say hi. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

K. Meisel gave an intriguing presentation on Japan today, where she and her husband Lee have visited four times over the past few years. Who knows, some of us might be inspired to follow in her footsteps soon! 🇯🇵

Katie Hasty, Marcia Barajas and Russ Fischer visited us from Prima Vista AI, a local start-up focused on responsible artificial intelligence use. The company provides education and consulting to citizens and business and through public workshops, one-on-one training with non profits and custom consulting.

Elene Cloete, with Outreach International, inspired us at today's weekly meeting with stories of their projects around the world. Led by local community members, these projects have provided clean drinking water, access to toilets (vs. outside waste disposal which contaminates communities), and addressed many other significant community challenges. This little fella got his training wheels taken off at the Lawrence Community Bike Ride last month. Now he's zipping around the Arboretum so fast, his dad is having to pick up his running pace to keep up! 🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ 😃
