* Visit educational displays by Kansas natural resource leaders.

Following the cleanup, participants will also have the opportunity to sample carp croquettes provided by the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks Invasive Species Program. They're cooking them up on site, so feel free to work up an appetite at the cleanup!

Congratulations to Lisa Grossman - artist, Friends of the Kaw Board member, on her upcoming show at Haw/Contemporary-Stockyards in Kansas City!

Opening on September 11, 2026, River Becoming Becoming River features Lisa's extraordinary paintings of the the Kansas River. From Lisa:

"I’m inspired by the Kaw’s beauty, but also how the river has become what it is today and the changes I’ve witnessed over thirty years, albeit a blip in geologic time. It can be dramatic, minute to minute, day to day, over years and thousands of years. Its self-organizing powers are on display and worthy of our attention and appreciation."

The show will run from Friday, September 11 to Saturday, October 17. She will also give an artists talk on Saturday, October 3rd at 1:00 PM.

Congratulations, Lisa!

We had a gorgeous evening yesterday for our final Beginner Wednesday of 2026! High river flows have made it difficult to host the Beginner Wednesday events this summer, so we were thrilled to sneak one in before the end of river season.

The group paddled from the Kansas River boat ramp in Edwardsville to the kayak launch at Mill Creek Streamway Park, part of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District - JCPRD Mill Creek Park system. It's a great 2-mile stretch with a lot of wildlife. We saw so many birds including bald eagles, kingfishers, and great blue herons!

Thank you to everyone who paddled with us! We hope you had a great time. We have one more River Explorations paddle trip this year, along with our Kaw Currents event, cleanups, and Beers of the Kaw in November! Watch our socials for all the details or sign up for our newsletter at www.kansasriver.org/newsletter to get all the details sent directly to your inbox.
