Once again this holiday season, Young Cancer League has partnered with LMH Health Oncology to deliver gift cards to those who have been impacted by cancer. It is our hope that the cards provide a bit of calm in what can be a turbulent journey. Abby Young, who helped found our organization, dropped off the cards this week. Our thoughts are with all in the Lawrence community (and beyond!) who are navigating the cancer journey this season. The cards are intended to provide funds for a special holiday meal or to relieve the financial burden that can accompany the season.

Thanks to all our donors who made this possible!

During the holiday season, Young Cancer League partnered with LMH Health Oncology to deliver gift cards to people in our community who have been impacted by cancer. Abby Young, who helped found our organization, dropped off the cards last month to wrap up our activities in 2021. We know that the holiday season can bring stress as well as joy -- and we hope these gift cards provide calm as those in the broader Lawrence community navigate the cancer journey.

Thanks to all our donors who made this possible, and we look forward to a great 2022!

This holiday season, our organization partnered with LMH Health Oncology to deliver gift cards to people in our community who have been impacted by cancer. While the holidays are often joyful, we know they can also be a source of stress -- and we hope these cards provide some calm as those in our community continue on their cancer journey. Our thanks go out to our donors who helped make this possible!

Friends,

We, the Young Cancer League Board of Directors, met this week for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic stopped our group’s activities earlier this year. After some discussion, we agreed that we’re ready to start offering our organizational kits to cancer caregivers and those living with cancer once again.

As a reminder, we hope these kits bring some calm amid the chaos of the cancer journey. They’re designed to organize and keep a large amount of information in one place for doctors and patients alike. They can be used to help file medication schedules, radiation treatments, chemotherapy visits, insurance forms and more.

We make these office supply kits available for free for those affected by cancer. If you or someone you love is interested in obtaining a kit, please visit us online at http://youngcancerleague.org/ourkits/.

As we came together for the first time since March this month, we also took some time to discuss the ongoing national and international conversations and protests surrounding the terrible impact of racism and violence against Black members of our communities. We felt it appropriate to affirm our own beliefs that Black Lives Matter and that all of us have a role to play in the months and years to come.

We know that the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, David McAtee, Rayshard Brooks and many more have caused immense pain. As we strive to achieve a common understanding of that pain, we also recognize that racism and discrimination toward our Black communities does not exist in a bubble. Our Asian, LatinX, Muslim, immigrant, LGBTQIA members of our communities also face racism and discrimination, along with many other groups, including our Native communities and those with disabilities and who face challenges related to mental health. We aim to be an organization that’s available to all — including our most vulnerable populations. We stand with and for you.

We hold ourselves accountable for turning these words into meaningful conversations and actions, and hope the members of our broader community will do so as well.

Thanks to all of you for bearing with us during a time when we had to pause our organization’s efforts. But we look forward to returning to fulfilling our mission as the ongoing pandemic allows.
