Expect strong southwest winds into the early afternoon today for much of eastern Kansas. The winds will diminish from northwest to southeast as a cold front passes. The front may spark severe thunderstorms in portions of east-central Kansas from the mid-afternoon to mid-evening. There is a chance for showers and storms south of Interstate 70 Thursday. This chance spreads area-wide this weekend.

A burn ban is in effect in Douglas County today. Open burning is not allowed in the unincorporated areas. Please call 911 if you see smoke or fire as with wind gusts up to 47 mph, fire will travel quickly and burn efficiently.

Update: This Severe Thunderstorm Warning has expired at 8:30pm. Additional showers and thunderstorms will continue to pass over Douglas County over the next hour. EM2 6/13/2026 2030

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Douglas County at 734 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 3 miles west of Keene to near Meriden to near Valle Falls, moving southeast at 55 mph.

HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated. This storm has a history of producing 60-65 MPH wind gusts.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.
