Survivors are counting on us. Can we count on New Jersey?

In the face of federal funding cuts and delays, we’re asking the state to protect and strengthen services by making a $23.6 million investment in sexual violence services for FY27.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

At NJCASA, we recognize the connections between mental health, violence, and survivorship. In our efforts to prevent sexual violence and support survivors, mental health resources are essential. A world working to end sexual violence is one that values mental health, community care, and access to healing.

If you are a survivor of sexual violence in NJ in need of support, you can call the 24-hour Statewide Hotline at 1-800-601-7200 or go to njcasa.org/find-help for information about your local sexual violence program.

May 6th is National Nurses Day, a special day to show our appreciation for the invaluable contributions of nurses to our society.

Did you know that nurses play an essential role in supporting survivors of sexual violence?

Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs) are registered nurses who receive specialized training to provide comprehensive medical and trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault.

The free services of an FNE are available to survivors of sexual violence who seek medical attention within seven days of an assault (and in some cases up to 9 days) in all counties in New Jersey.

Swipe through this post to learn more about FNEs and for more information about becoming an FNE.

We’ve officially wrapped up Sexual Assault Awareness Month!

Every year, we are inspired by the incredible Sexual Assault Awareness Month events hosted by our membership programs and community partners across the state. In every county, advocates and allies organize to raise awareness, support survivors, and prevent sexual violence.

Here are a few snapshots! 📸

And remember, it’s never too late to support your local program during SAAM and throughout the year! Go to njcasa.org/find-help to find your local programs.

In one word, what does Sexual Assault Awareness Month mean to you?

As we wrap up SAAM, NJCASA staff members are reflecting on what SAAM means to each of us. This month is a powerful time to raise awareness, build community, and move our vision of a better future forward—but the work doesn’t end here. Even though April is coming to a close, the team at NJCASA remains committed to supporting survivors and advocating for a world free from violence, all year long. 🩵

In contemporary Cuba, primary prevention work unfolds not through a single program or policy, but through a constellation of efforts that bring together education, public health, gender policy, and cultural production. One of the most compelling recent examples of this approach is the Cuban campaign EVOLUCIONA—a youth-centered, multimedia initiative designed to unsettle the cultural assumptions that normalize violence against women.

If we turn now toward the United States and our home state of New Jersey, we can envision how this model could be adopted as a platform through which to encourage communities to envision alternatives to the status quo and chart paths towards prevention-informed ways of being
