Bruce Northern For Lawrence Common Council

Bruce Northern For Lawrence Common Council My name is Bruce Northern, a student, voter, and young citizen in south Lawrence.

After a lifetime of interest and participation in politics and civic activity, I am committed to participating in building the future we all must live with. District 2 is the old heart of the great and growing City of Lawrence, but the newer development has not fit the character of our founding neighborhoods. To revitalize south Lawrence will take Cooperation & Commitment, and I pledge to work har

d to rebuild our Franklin Road commercial corridor and eliminate crime and blight in our neighborhoods. As your Councilor in District 2, I will partner with the Community Development Corporation, the Lawrence Re-Development Commission, and the Administration to tear down abandoned housing, work to improve our infrastructure in order to support and attract the businesses that can provide the jobs to keep young people here, in south Lawrence, to raise their families. Together we can implement planned projects to improve walk-ability and commerce in the area and continue to build sustainable neighborhoods. I want to see Lawrence prosper and grow in to the future and I'd like your help on Election Day.

Another great week out in our Lawrence neighborhoods- meeting and greeting voters and discussing their issues. There is great concern over flooding issues- plus a lot of talking about the spring crop of potholes! This highlights the need for our communities to invest in renewed infrastructure. With reduced revenues, our Indiana cities have greater challenges in maintaining our roads, drainage and sewer facilities, and our street lighting. Investment is needed to bring new technologies into the mix, so we can be more effective with the limited resources available. I'd like to be a part of the solution by representing South Lawrence on our Common Council, and begin to work with citizens, the administration, and community partners to get the job done. It's time to end the political games that have held us back for so long by electing a council that is dedicated to moving our City forward! http://leadership4lawrence.com/ourfuture/

We respect the past, but we don’t pine for the past. We don’t fear the future; we grab for it. America is not some fragile thing. We are large, in the words of Whitman, containing multitudes. We are boisterous and diverse and full of energy, perpetually young in spirit. -President Obama

Planning meeting today with District 5 candidate Greg Allen and Mayor Jessup's campaign manager Zachary Brown at our HQ. Ready to win a primary with this slate of fired up 'preferred' Democrats!

Great evening at the Lawrence Democrat Club Black History Month celebration. Inspiring talk from Pat Chavis, and a celebration of our trendsetters- Myla Eldridge, Sheryl Lynch and Kim Bacon. We are proud of you!!!

Franklin Road is the key to revitalizing South Lawrence. Much needed safety upgrades are planned for the area south of the tracks- the site of many auto accidents, including the death of LPD Officer Craig Herbert nearly 10 years ago. I've kept up with the public meetings: https://www.facebook.com/pages/City-of-Lawrence-Indiana/275274445428
