PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - Brunswick County Reminds Residents of Outdoor Music and Festival Permit Requirements

The Brunswick County Board of Supervisors and County Administration would like to remind residents, organizations, businesses, and event promoters that Brunswick County has an Outdoor Music and Festival Ordinance that regulates certain events held within the County. This is not a new ordinance but an ordinance that has been in effect since January 19, 2000.

The purpose of the ordinance is to help ensure public safety, protect the health and welfare of residents, and provide for the orderly conduct of events that may attract large crowds, involve amplified sound, or require public safety services.

Depending on the nature of the event, a permit may be required prior to conducting an outdoor music event, festival, concert, entertainment gathering, or similar activity.

Factors that may require a permit include, but are not limited to:
• The anticipated number of attendees;
• The use of amplified music or sound equipment;
• The duration and hours of the event;
• The sale or distribution of food, beverages, or merchandise;
• Temporary structures, tents, stages, or amusement equipment;
• Traffic control or parking arrangements;
• Camping or overnight accommodations;
• Public safety, fire protection, emergency medical services, and sanitation requirements.

Individuals or organizations planning an event are encouraged to contact the Brunswick County Planning Department well in advance of the proposed event date to determine whether a permit is required and to allow sufficient time for review and approval.
Failure to obtain a required permit may result in enforcement action, including the cancellation or closure of the event.

For additional information regarding the Outdoor Music and Festival Ordinance, permit requirements, or the application process, please contact the Brunswick County Planning Department at (434) 848-0882 or visit the Brunswick County Government Building, 228 North Main Street, Lawrenceville, Virginia.

Brunswick County appreciates the cooperation of event organizers and residents in helping ensure that community events are conducted safely and successfully for all participants.
