ATLANTA (Dec. 29, 2024)— Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and the recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 29, at his home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family. He was 100 years old, making him the longest-lived president in U.S. history.
The loss of any former president is always difficult for the nation. Jimmy Carter will be deeply missed by his fellow Lions, as he was a dedicated lifelong example of selfless, servant leadership. He was one of four Lions who served as U.S. presidents in modern times.
A great Lion has ascended to higher service.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, loved ones, and many friends of former President Lion Jimmy Carter. Although we are no longer active, we are honored to have been chartered by Lions Clubs International at Georgia Gwinnett College as the first 21st-century chartered campus Lions Club. In the photos accompanying this post, you will find images of many of our chartered club members, including chartered officers with President Jimmy Carter. He even wrote a letter of congratulations to our Chartering Faculty Advisor, Lion Dr. Jim Fatzinger, and our Chartering President, Lion Jerhvon Pearman, who considered President Carter a hero and role model.
This is a profound loss for humanity and a significant loss for Lionism.
Rest in peace, Past U.S. President and Past District Governor Lion Jimmy.
