Was checking calves and stumbled onto something pretty rare—twin bison calves.

Twins in bison are uncommon, and unfortunately it’s not unusual for one calf not to make it. So far, both are up and mom is letting both nurse. Hoping the cow raises them both!

Every calf that hits the ground is a reflection of breeding decisions we made years ago. Definitely still learning and just trying to stack good decisions over time. Lots of patience, discipline, and letting time do its work.

Over the years we’ve become pretty hands off during calving season. The moms bring calves up when they’re ready, and we’ve found no intervention is usually best.

Calving season stays low-stress—we give the mommas space and let them bring their calves up whenever they feel comfortable.

Good genetics take time.
Our replacement females stay on pasture from birth and are culled hard for performance in our environment.

One thing we’ve learned—real breeding stock takes years to develop.
