Cox’s Store Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Lawton Rangers Women’s Auxiliary for their generous donation of water and snacks to support our rehab efforts, and to Noela Stallings for her additional donation of facial wipes and Slim Jims!

These thoughtful donations help us provide much-needed rehab and refreshment for our fire and EMS personnel while serving on the front lines. Keeping our crews hydrated, fueled, and cared for allows them to stay focused on the job of protecting our community. 💧🥨🚒

A huge THANK YOU to Charles & Linda Langford who has generously donated Gatorade and snacks for our firefighters! 🚒❤️

With the heat we’ve been dealing with lately, having cold drinks and quick snacks available makes a big difference when our crews come back from a fire hot, tired, and needing to refuel. We truly appreciate everyone in our community who continues to support our volunteer firefighters.

We are well stocked on bottled water right now, but we could still use some additional Gatorade/sports drinks and individually packaged snacks to help keep the trucks and station supplied.

Every donation—big or small—helps us take care of the volunteers who answer the call for our community.

Tonight after fighting fire at Sterling all afternoon Cowboy's Pumpkin Center Cafe donated DELICIOUS Pulled Pork Sandwiches (their special for tonight) to our guys! Those guys were having to repair and maintenance trucks after fighting today’s fire.

Showing up for each other is what makes this community a great one!

A huge THANK YOU to Cowboy's Pumpkin Center Cafe for taking care of our crews and feeding everyone after today’s fire!

After a long, hot day on the fireground, having a good meal waiting on you means more than most people realize. Our local businesses continually step up to support our firefighters and our community when it matters.

This is exactly why you SUPPORT LOCAL! When you support the businesses in your community, you’re supporting the same people who turn around and take care of their neighbors.

🔥 PLEASE HELP US HELP YOU — BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥

It is HOT, DRY, and WINDY, and we want to remind everyone that we are currently under a BURN BAN. Conditions like these can turn one small spark into a fast-moving wildfire in a matter of minutes.

The photos below are from today’s fire in Sterling.

We also want to remind our community what the word VOLUNTEER means.

Every firefighter who responded left something behind to answer the call. Some came straight out of the hayfield. Some left work. Others are retired and still choose to serve their community. Nobody at Cox’s Store VFD is sitting at a station waiting for the alarm to sound. When the pager goes off, we stop what we’re doing, get to the station, and answer the call whenever we can.

And every call comes with a cost.

During this one fire alone, three of our trucks experienced some type of mechanical breakdown or equipment issue. Those trucks now have to be repaired and returned to service. For a small volunteer department operating on a very limited budget, unexpected repairs like these can take a significant bite out of the money we have available for fuel, equipment, maintenance, training, and other necessities.

Our firefighters will continue to show up. We just ask our community to help us by doing their part.

Please obey the burn ban. Don’t burn brush, trash, or debris, and use extreme caution with anything that could create a spark.

A preventable fire doesn’t just put property at risk. It puts volunteer firefighters, apparatus, neighboring departments, and limited community resources at risk too.

We are proud to serve our community, and we’re thankful for the neighboring departments who work alongside us when the call comes.

Stay safe. Be smart. Please don’t burn.

Today we celebrate 250 years of American freedom and honor the generations of brave men and women who have answered the call to serve our nation and our communities.

At Cox’s Store VFD, we’re proud to continue that tradition of service—standing ready 24/7 to protect our neighbors, support one another, and give back to the community we call home.

As you celebrate with family and friends, please enjoy the festivities responsibly. Keep fireworks a safe distance from homes and dry grass, have a water source nearby, and don’t hesitate to call 911 in the event of an emergency.
