On May 19th, the Jefferson County Pathways Coalition met for their quarterly meeting at Bills Fish House in Waurika. We would like to give a great big thank you to Jeri Mays for donating a delicious free meal which we raffled to one lucky attendee!

We had a very productive meeting reviewing the Passport to Adulthood success we had with the schools, favorite coalition activities over the past year, and we kicked off this years TeenCon planning! is our annual behavioral health conference for teens who are in 6th and 9th grade in Jefferson County.

We would like to invite you to join our coalition! We work on ways to help prevent ma*****na and other substance misuse among our youth, as well as helping them learn to live healthier lives. Please message us for more information.

On May 21, 2026, OBN’s Ma*****na Enforcement Team (MET) served a Search Warrant at an illegal ma*****na grow located at 690 N 2782 Rd., Waurika, OK, 73573.

“The Search Warrant was the result of an investigation initiated by a tip from a neighbor who stated that the ma*****na grow consistently burns their plant waste and had burned 45 acres of his land and other neighbors' property.”—-OBN PIO Mark Woodward

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people for starting the fire and OBN MET was brought in to investigate the grow operation. OBN MET Agents determined the grow had been operating without an active OBN Registration or OMMA License since 2021.

During the Search Warrant, OBN MET Agents and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office seized approximately 4,000 illegal plants. OBN Agents and sheriff’s deputies arrested Yangchen Liu and Ying Chen as they were attempting to flee from the scene.

Liu and Chen are being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $50,000 bonds. Both are due in court in June.

This investigation is ongoing. Citizens can anonymously report suspected drug and human trafficking by sending OBN a Facebook DM.

During , WMPN, along with Pathways to a Healthier You Behavioral Health Committee, the Positive Youth Coalition, and Volunteers of America, hosted two free community events.

On May 11, the Can't Look Away documentary was shown at the Palace Theatre in Duncan. This was an eye-opening film that showed the dangers that algorithms can pose to our youth on social media, which greatly affects their mental health. After the showing, we had a discussion about ways to raise more awareness about these dangers.

On May 12, the Parlor Nutrition in Comanche hosted a free community event. Samantha and Shannon with Volunteers of America spoke about opioids, signs of overdose, what naloxone(Narcan) is, and how to use it. They gave away free Narcan and provided three naloxone(Narcan) kits for businesses to be better prepared in case of an opioid emergency. Gina with WMPN gave away free lockboxes and medication disposal kits for safe storage and disposal of medications, and bags with resources about the safe use, disposal, and storage of medications, as well as 988 resources.
