New update in reference to the wildfires west of Lawton.

⚠️ Please stay out of the affected area unless you are a resident. Fire apparatus, law enforcement vehicles, personnel, smoke, debris, and other hazards remain throughout the fire footprint.

🔥 RAILROAD SOUTH FIRE – AUGUST 30 UPDATE 2:00 PM

The Railroad South Fire is under control, but active fire operations continue today in the Indiahoma area of Comanche County.

The evacuation order has been lifted, all traffic control points have been removed, and shelters are no longer active. Residents may return to the affected area, but a heavy fire and law enforcement presence remains within the fire footprint.

Current confirmed impacts include 5 homes destroyed, 2 homes with moderate damage, and 3 civilians transported for medical care.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has assumed the lead on the fire, with local, state, federal, and tribal resources continuing suppression operations. Crews are reinforcing firebreaks, extinguishing and monitoring hot spots, protecting structures, and watching for rekindle or renewed fire spread. Federal law enforcement is also assisting with the fire investigation.

⚠️ Please stay out of the affected area unless you are a resident. Fire apparatus, law enforcement vehicles, personnel, smoke, debris, and other hazards remain throughout the fire footprint.

Any public donations intended to support responding agencies should be coordinated directly through local Volunteer Fire Departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

New Life Assembly Church 501 W B AVE in Cache

This Evacuation Order now includes all areas between Big Bow Road and 197th, and then East to Quanah Road and south to SW Lee Blvd. Northern boundary will be Rogers Lane and Southern Boundary will be SW Lee Blvd.

Thank You, Lawton Community & First Responders

For those who have been following the updates regarding yesterday’s wildfires, we want to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation for the tremendous support we have received from our community.
We would also like to share a heartfelt message we received from a citizen. Words of encouragement like these mean so much to the men and women who work tirelessly to protect our community.

To the Lawton Fire Department and Lawton Police Department,

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to every firefighter, police officer, dispatcher, and first responder who has been working to keep our community safe during these fires.

I know many of you are working long hours in extreme heat and difficult conditions while the rest of us are able to stay home with our families. Seeing the response to these fires has reminded me how much we depend on the people who are willing to run toward an emergency when everyone else is trying to get away from it.

Please know that your work does not go unnoticed. There are families throughout Lawton who are safer because you showed up, and I am incredibly grateful for what you do for our community.

Please pass my thanks along to everyone who has been involved in the response. Stay safe, and thank you for protecting Lawton and the surrounding communities.

Update 4:23 hrs
East and westbound lanes of Lee are now open at 82nd street.
Southbound from Lee on 82nd is still closed.
We ask that motorists are mindful of their first responders and PSO workers working on the scene right now.

ATTENTION MOTORISTS

Due to a large fire near 82nd Street, the Lawton Police Department is closing eastbound traffic on Lee Boulevard from 82nd Street to 67th Street.

Westbound traffic remains open at this time.

Motorists are encouraged to use 67th Street Northbound and Southbound, as well as Gore Boulevard, as alternate routes.

Please use caution and avoid the affected area if possible.
