Day 2. Protect yourself, family and property.

DAY 2 — START AT YOUR HOUSE

🏠🔥 START CLOSE. WORK OUTWARD.

When wildfire threatens, the condition of the area immediately surrounding your home can make a major difference.

Take a few minutes today to:

• Remove dead leaves, grass, and vegetation next to your home
• Clean debris from roofs and gutters
• Clear vegetation from beneath decks and porches
• Move firewood, lumber, patio cushions, and other combustible materials away from structures
• Trim vegetation touching or overhanging your home

The goal is simple: make it harder for fire to reach your house.

Start at the structure and work outward.

- Clean it up. Clear it out. Create separation.

If you are anywhere in Oklahoma this is good advice. Dangerous drought conditions are in play. Any spark can create a deadly wild fire! I encourage you to follow Comanche County/Lawton Emergency Management if you don’t already. They are putting out very good information on what steps to take to protect your family and property.

EXTREME DROUGHT: TAKE ACTION NOW (part 1of 4)

Comanche County is experiencing EXTREME DROUGHT CONDITIONS.

Grass, brush, and trees are extremely dry and readily ignitable. A fire that starts under these conditions can spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

Do not wait until you see smoke on the horizon to prepare your property.

Today, walk around your home and ask:

🔥 What can burn?
🔥 What could carry fire toward my home?
🔥 What can I remove, move, trim, or separate?

Every homeowner and property owner can take steps right now to reduce wildfire risk.

Wildfire preparedness starts before the fire starts.
