🔥 THANK YOU TO OUR MUTUAL AID PARTNERS 🔥

The Lawton Fire Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to the firefighters from Geronimo, Pecan Creek, Valley View, and Flower Mound Fire Departments for their assistance with today’s grass fire.

Our firefighters, working alongside our neighboring departments, did an outstanding job bringing the fire under control and preventing further spread. Incidents like today are a great reminder of the importance of the strong partnerships we have with our surrounding fire departments.

⚠️ We also want to remind everyone that Comanche County remains under a burn ban. Conditions remain extremely dry, and a small spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving grass fire.

Please continue to use extreme caution outdoors and avoid any activity that could accidentally start a fire.

Thank you to all of the firefighters who worked hard today to protect our community and our neighbors.

Lawton Fire Department will be sending units to the Fire that is located on the Comanche/Cotton line. Please stay clear of the area; this is a large,
dangerous fire.

🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT — COMANCHE COUNTY 🔥

The Comanche County Commissioners have approved a countywide burn ban, effective immediately through August 31, 2026, due to the extremely dry conditions and increased fire danger across our area.

The burn ban was approved this morning during the Commissioners’ weekly meeting and will be reevaluated on August 31 based on conditions at that time.

We ask everyone to take these conditions seriously and use extra caution with any activity that could cause a fire. Dry vegetation can ignite quickly, and even a small spark can result in a rapidly spreading grass or wildland fire.

🚫 Please comply with all restrictions of the Comanche County burn ban.

We also encourage residents to be especially careful with:

* Hot vehicle or equipment exhaust around dry vegetation
* Chains dragging from trailers
* Proper disposal of smoking materials
* Any outdoor activity that could accidentally ignite dry vegetation

Help us protect our community and our firefighters by preventing the next fire before it starts.

We will provide additional information as conditions change or when the burn ban is reevaluated on August 31.

🔥 **Lawton Fire Department Community Safety Reminder** 🔥

Lawton is experiencing **extremely dry conditions**, and even a small spark can quickly become a dangerous fire. If you're making outdoor plans, please use extra caution.

While **Lawton is NOT currently under a burn ban**, the City **does not allow open outdoor burning**.

✅ **Permitted when there is NOT a burn ban:**
• Small fires in approved **chimeneas**
• Small fires in **approved burn pits**

Please:
🚫 Never leave a fire unattended.
💧 Keep a water source or fire extinguisher nearby.
🌬️ Avoid using outdoor fire features on windy days.
🚬 Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials.
🔥 Never burn trash, brush, or other debris.

Our team has made it home. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers while they were gone. Please continue to keep South Texas and specifically our new friends in Cotulla on your prayers as they face the aftermath of the flood.

To the citizens of Cotulla and La Salle County. A note is thanks from our rescue team.

As our deployment in South Texas comes to an end, we just wanted to say thank you to the City of Cotulla. From the day we got here, everyone made us feel welcome. Whether it was a friendly wave, a conversation around town, or people simply checking to see if we needed anything, your kindness didn’t go unnoticed. We came here to help during a difficult time, but we’ll head home remembering the people just as much as the work. It was an honor to serve alongside your first responders and be part of your community, even if only for a short time.

Thank you for your hospitality, your support, and for making us feel right at home. We wish everyone in Cotulla the very best as recovery continues.

Update from our crews in Texas. The team is doing well. The flooding at Cotulla is forecasted to crest today. The water is expected to be around for a couple of days. Crews have deployed their boats checking areas and mapping out potential issues. Please continue to keep them and the people of South Texas in your prayers.

The Boots and Badges blood drive is on. Come on down and donate and make sure to vote team Lawton Fire. We took it on the chin in the competition at animal welfare so we need redemption. We you to show up Lawton and support your Fire Department. In the end we just need donors. See you there.

Update on Our Boat Teams in Texas

Today was a relatively slow day for our teams. This evening, they are leaving San Antonio and relocating to Cotulla to be in position for new assignments, as flooding conditions continue to worsen farther south.
