We all deserve support financially from our children's other parent. Regardless of our financial situations, there are things that we give our children on our own that will follow them into adulthood and give them good character. Be proud of yourself for what you teach your children. Here are a few of them.

I know I need to remind myself at times that my child will get mad at me, won't always like what I say, the chores to be done, schoolwork that must be completed, being told no, and I will hear the words "I hate you" at least once or twice; but it is out of love and care for my child that I do what I do as a parent. And one day, when he is much, much older I hope he will understand that it was because of my love for him that I raised him the way I did. I am not perfect and I have and will make mistakes as a parent, and this too, is a part of being a parent. It's okay to make mistakes and I want my child to learn that as well. I hope that because I am raising my child with all my heart and soul that he will be a happy, healthy, caring person. That is what matters more than anything else in the world to me.

Utah child support laws are weak and leave many single parents to struggle financially and many at poverty levels. It's time for change, we need strict laws and consequences. It's time to make child support not just a demand but an absolute.
