eBike & eScooter Safety Reminder from the Le Center Police Department đź›´
We've once again noticed an increase in eBike and eScooter use—especially on downtown sidewalks—and we want to keep everyone safe and informed! Here's what riders need to know:
📌 Know Your eBike:
➡️ Class 1: Pedal-assist only, up to 20 mph
➡️ Class 2: Throttle (no pedaling needed), up to 20 mph
➡️ Class 3: Pedal-assist only, up to 28 mph
👉 No one under 15 may operate any eBike. Class 3 riders must be at least 16.
đźš« Sidewalk Use in the Business District:
Riding on sidewalks downtown is not allowed—for the safety of pedestrians. Use bike lanes or the roadway whenever possible. On other sidewalks, yield to pedestrians and give a warning before passing.

đź›´ eScooter Rules (per MN State Law): 169.225
✔️ Must follow the same rules as bikes
❌ No sidewalk riding (except to enter/exit property)
đźš· No passengers
🧒 Minimum age: 12
🪖 Riders under 18 must wear a helmet
đź’ˇ Must have lights when riding at night
🛣️ Stay to the right side of the road unless turning or avoiding a hazard
👮‍♂️ How We’re Helping:
Our officers are out educating riders, encouraging safe practices, and addressing violations when necessary. We’re all about keeping Le Center safe for everyone.
📣 Let’s work together to make our community safer and more enjoyable for all.
Stay safe and ride responsibly!

🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT – TEXT MESSAGE SCAM

Residents are being advised of an ongoing scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS).
