As a friendly reminder, Le Sueur County in partnership with Nicollet and Sibley Counties will be hosting a Solid Waste Collection for Tires, Appliances, and Electronics on Saturday, October 17th from 9am-1pm.

The Collection will be held at the Nicollet County Fairgrounds in Saint Peter. The fairgrounds are located at 400 W Union Street.

Le Sueur County is getting ready to update its Official Zoning Map - something we haven’t done since 2013!

The Zoning Map helps everyone understand how land can be used throughout the County and help guide future growth and development. We’d love for community members to stop by our open house events on October 12th from 5:30–7:30 p.m. or November 9th from 5:30–7:30 p.m.

County staff will be available at both sessions to chat about why the update matters, walk through the process, and answer any questions you may have about your property.

We encourage you to join us, learn more, and share your input as we shape this important update together.

PLEASE NOTE COLLECTION DATE WAS CHANGED. This collection event was originally scheduled for October 3rd and now has been rescheduled for October 17th.

With summer winding down, residents are getting prepared to remove their boats, lifts, and docks from the water. However, since the state continues to be in a drought, the task of moving your water related equipment this fall may be more difficult than usual. The DNR has posted a news release for Minnesota residents about planning ahead this year as the drought and low water levels are expected to continue.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources advises boaters to take extra care at public water access sites throughout Minnesota, where ongoing drought conditions continue to cause low water levels.

With the hot weather we are having this week, residents are looking for ways to cool off. Unfortunately multiple lakes within Le Sueur County have received reports of Blue Green Algae Blooms!

Blue Green Algae is caused by nutrient rich warm waters. The heat we are having this summer creates ideal conditions for these blooms to occur!

Below is a list of different recreational activities and their associated exposure risk to Blue Green Algae. While it may be tempting to swim in water when it is this hot out, being exposed to Blue Green Algae toxins can make people sick and can be toxic to pets!
