Mayor’s corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers:

Happy 250th birthday to the greatest nation in the world! Try to take a step back and look at the positives this Country offers. People go through great lengths to try to get to the land of opportunity, and that it is. I’ve said it before, wouldn’t it be great if we focused more on Patriotism in the class rooms and homes. Unfortunately, we have also become the nation of entitled. So, enjoy the 4th of July followed by the Oatka Fest. Count your blessings and have fun, because there is no better place to be than in LeRoy.

The Village has suspended taking code enforcement complaints because of staffing for the time being. The Town supervisor and I are looking for solutions, but for now our hands are tied. Short-staffed is the theme for the summer with the recent retirements and vacations the DPW. They are working diligently to keep the grass mowed and flowers watered. Last week with the help from other Towns and Villages, they paved Summit St. and oil and stoned eleven other streets. Pretty impressive!

Now that school is out, I remind drivers about pedestrian traffic. The new electric bike and scooter craze has added to it, they are faster than regular bikes so please be extra careful. As for the parents, PLEASE explain to your children the need for safety (including helmets) on these machines, and to be respectful of others while riding them. I am so old I remember when skateboards were the problem. I will give two quotes this week.

If your garbage and/or recycling didn’t get picked up today, WM will be around tomorrow. Please be patient with them, they are doing the best they can to take care of everybody in a timely manner. Thank you.

The Village Offices will be closed Friday, June 19, and will reopen Monday, June 22, at 8:00am.

Mayor’s corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers:

Things have never been busier at 3 W. Main St. We have experienced the biggest number of employees leaving us in my tenure and nothing is even close. The DPW will be shorthanded throughout the Summer, with Charlie Snell retiring in April, and John Pasquale has decided to retire at the end of this month. In addition, the Rogers family welcomed their newest addition, Sadie Danielle, was welcomed by my son Mike and his wife Olivia. We wish John the best in his retirement. He has been a main cog in the wheel of the DPW for over 30 years and will be greatly missed. Clerk Treasure Eileen Carmel has also tendered her resignation, but will help us with the transition, her last day is to be determined.

Long time SRO, Sean Anchor, had his last day on Tuesday. I believe whom ever created this position must have had Sean in mind. The perfect combination of physically imposing with the heart of an angel, our children felt safe with him as a protector. But he had enough little kid in him so they had fun. I have ALWAYS been a huge Sean Anchor fan, we wish him nothing but the best but thank him for his years of service.

Jacob Crissy answered my last column with the first home run of the little league season, that gets him a milkshake from the Mayor.

On to our graduates; congratulations!!! Hopefully your journey will be remembered fondly. This is a special year as I have 2 grandsons in the class of 2026, Jayden Cain and Cam Wilson, I couldn’t be prouder of both. On April 1, 2012, my wife put these two 4 year olds in shirts that said, “Don’t mess with me, my Papa is the Mayor.” Want a fond memory.

To the Class of 2026, remember, “Once a KNIGHT always a KNIGHT,” you are someone special. Good Luck.

Weather permitting, the Village DPW is planning to Oil & Stone North Street, North Avenue, South Street, Genesee Street & Park, Lathrop Avenue, Erie Street, Maple Avenue, St. Marks Street, Church Street, Wolcott Street, Lincoln Avenue, Poplar Lane, and Orchard Drive on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, starting approximately 6:30am. Please NO ON STREET PARKING on this day. Again, weather permitting, and again please NO ON STREET PARKING on this day.
