The Hearst Free Library was presented to the City of Lead and its residents on behalf of Phoebe Apperson Hearst, wife of mining magnate George Hearst, on December 25, 1894. The original collection had hundreds of foreign language books to accommodate the vast and varied ethnic groups that populated Lead during the Homestake Mining Company's heyday. Today, the library is a warm and welcoming presen

ce on Lead's Main Street that serves more than 30,000 patrons annually. The Hearst Library offers free computer access and wireless internet in addition to several online databases including AncestryLibrary, Sanborn Maps, WorldBook Online and more!

Adult Summer Reading is coming back this summer — and so is Reading Bingo! It was such a hit last year that we’re bringing it back for another season of reading fun.

📚 Bingo sheets will be available beginning June 1st at the library.
📅 Completed sheets must be turned in by August 28th.

We're gearing up for our children's Summer Reading Program at the Lead Library! ☀️📚
