Last night, members of the Economic Development Professionals Association of South Dakota gathered in Pierre to listen to Governor Larry Rhoden's thoughts before the State of the State address this afternoon. Attracting and recruiting new business is imperative to creating steady tax revenues to support infrastructure projects, our school systems, and our South Dakota way of life. Here's to building the future in 2026!

This morning, after our annual meeting, we hosted the community leaders of HISTORIC DEADWOOD and the City of Lead for a development session to let the communities discuss their needs and ensure that we are doing what is needed to support both very different communities.

The recurring theme was a desire by everyone in the room to focus on what we are calling the “Three Cs.” Cooperation, Communication, and Collaboration.

DLEDC is committed to further strengthening our community development for Lead, Deadwood, Central City, and the surrounding area. Thank you to everyone who attended!

Interested in international commerce? Check this out:

Good afternoon,

I’m reaching out to ask for your help in identifying companies in your community that would be interested in participating in the upcoming South Dakota Trade Mission to Canada, scheduled for November 3 to 7, 2025, with stops in Montreal and Toronto.

Canada is South Dakota’s largest export market, with over $1.1 billion in goods and services exported in 2023. This mission is a great opportunity for businesses to explore international growth, connect with potential buyers, and better understand the Canadian market.

Here’s what the mission includes:

B2B meetings tailored to each business, arranged by CIDEP, an experienced Canadian consulting firm
Market briefings from the U.S. Commercial Service and Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS)
Access to STEP Grant funding (up to $5,000 per company) to help cover eligible expenses
Industries of focus include: This opportunity is open to any industry*

Agricultural commodities and value-added ag
Precision ag
Bioscience
Munitions and defense
Manufacturing
Cybersecurity
Trade associations and nonprofits are also welcome
If you know of any companies that might be a good fit, I would appreciate it if you could share this opportunity with them.

Interested businesses should complete the attached intake form. Once I receive the form, I will connect them with our in-market consultant to begin discussing potential B2B opportunities.

If you have any questions or would like additional materials to pass along, feel free to reach out to me directly.

Thank you!
