đźš’ Our Type 3 wildland engine, Wildland 7, has been deployed for the next two weeks to the Willow Fire in western Colorado. Our three-person crew is currently assigned to structure protection, helping defend homes and other values at risk as firefighters continue working to contain the fire.
The Willow Fire, burning west of Leadville, has grown to nearly 4,000 acres in steep, timbered terrain under extremely dry conditions. Hundreds of firefighters from across the region are working to protect communities, critical infrastructure, and natural resources while building containment lines.
Did you know? A Type 3 wildland engine is built for longer, more complex incidents. It carries significantly more water, has greater pumping capability, and can support a larger crew than a Type 6 engine. While Type 6 engines excel at quick initial attack and accessing narrow roads and rough terrain, Type 3 engines are often used for extended operations and defending structures in the wildland urban interface.
