Effective immediately, The US Forest Service Leadville Ranger District has ordered a closure of Half Moon Road and its camping areas, up to Champion Campgrounds until further notice.

PLEASE NOTE: This road closure is out of an abundance of caution leading into a holiday weekend, there are no evacuation warnings or orders for the area.

If you're currently camping at Halfmoon, please respect our Search and Rescue crews as they have volunteered their time to ensure the area is clear of humans.

If you are planning a camping trip, we encourage you to explore dispersed camping options in Twin Lakes or in neighboring counties, including Chaffee County and Summit County.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to keep our residents, firefighters, visitors and public lands safe. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Remember, all land within Lake County is under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions.

NO CAMPFIRES ALLOWED!

NOTICE: Multi-Agency Full-Scale Exercise

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with partner agencies, will be conducting a full-scale first responder training exercise in the areas in and around Lake County High School and St. Vincent Hospital.

Community members may notice an increased presence of law enforcement vehicles and emergency responders, as well as activity in and around these locations throughout the day.

Important:
- This is a pre-planned exercise
- There is NO threat to the public

These exercises are critical to ensuring that agencies are prepared to respond effectively to real-world emergencies and to strengthen coordination among first responders.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work to keep Lake County safe.

Please do not call 911 regarding this exercise unless you have an actual emergency.
