From climate planning to our annual community cleanup to locally grown plant starts, there are so many ways to get involved and show up for our community over the next few weeks. Whether you’ve got an hour or a whole morning, every bit of participation makes Lake County a better place to live.

❓Did you know every piece of recycling in Lake County is sorted by hand? Every can, every bottle, every box — landfill staff sort it all themselves.

♻️We learned this last week touring the Lake County Recycling Center with , , and . The takeaway: Lake County recycling WORKS — but only when we do our part.

🌎Why it matters: our landfill’s current cell will fill up in about 7.5 years. Every clean, properly sorted recyclable is one less thing taking up that space.

How to make your recycling count:

💧Rinse containers before recycling
✅Follow program guidelines (check the County’s Landfill & Recycling page for the most current list of what’s accepted)
🚮Drop recyclables directly at the Recycling Center at the landfill whenever you can

👷🏻‍♀️One heads-up: when drop sites get heavily contaminated, the whole roll-off becomes unsafe to hand-sort and ends up in the landfill. The county is working on it — and we can help by keeping our recycling clean.

More waste diversion programs are coming soon. Stay tuned!
