We have received an email from the ISO company. The Insurance Services Office is a company that "grades" or "evaluates" your fire department. They give departments a "rating" based on several, several factors. Most major insurance company's will adjust their rate, given to homeowners, based on this score.
Everything is scored, including the type of firetrucks we have, the equipment we have on these trucks, policies and procedures, building preplans, hose testing, individual training hours etc. The 911 center is scored as the tax that was voted on for 911 center county wide a few years back. This helped us score near perfect in that category, due largely to the upgrades the center received from the tax. Leadwood and Frankclays water systems were also scored.
The rating is a 1-10 score, 1 being perfect, 10 being less than desired. Our previous score was an 8 in the city limits and a 8X outside the city limits. This is explained better in the picture below.
The amount of work your volunteers put into all of this is astounding.
I am very proud to announce our new rating is a 7 in both the city and rual areas. This means we can provide the same amount of water flow through the truck capabilities in town as we can at the other end of our district. We gained several points through new firetrucks, equipment and reporting software that was made possible by the tax you guys passed!
It is difficult to move these numbers as a large portion of the score is out of our hands. For example, the water system is over 1/3 of this rating. I cannot change the water system. Even though we as a fire department did what we can do, such as inspection, operating and documenting these hydrants, we received almost no points because they flow less than the minimum needed for fire operations.
Moving forward, we will continue to try and improve on these areas as we continue to upgrade our trucks, our equipment and training..made possible by you guys.
Thank you all again
